USAID/Sida FARMA is to expand environmentally sustainable production, processing, and sales of value-added agricultural products. The expected result of FARMA is contribution to poverty reduction. USAID/Sida FARMA is implemented by Chemonics International with ORGUT as a subcontractor. ORGUT provides consulting services aiming at increasing agricultural competitiveness, meeting EU accession standards, reducing poverty by expanding
environmentally sustainable production, and increasing sales, exports, and employment. USAID/Sida FARMA’s approach focuses on four integrated components: Building sustainable market linkages for producers; Increasing
access to finance; Building the capacity of producer organisations’ and other counterparts; and Enhancing the policy environment to benefit competitiveness of agricultural goods. In order to attain project goals, USAID/ Sida FARMA uses various tools, including a Development Fund and Partners Fund for targeted subcontracts to local partners.

FARMA works with BiH agriculture producers and processors to improve their ability to withstand pressures emanating from the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) and EU accession process, and also to enable agribusinesses to capture market opportunities from the CEFTA and EU accession. FARMA provides targeted, demand-driven support to farmers, cooperatives, market integrators and food processors and help address constraints along the entire value chain in selected sub-sectors. In addition, FARMA provides private sector –identified and –driven policy assistance in cooperation with farmer-associations, cooperatives and SMEs, fostering a better policy environment for market-efficient agricultural production and food processing in BiH. The selected sub-sectors are: fruits and vegetables, medicinal and aromatic plants, non-timber forest products, and dairy. The policy component of FARMA works towards enacting farmer-driven policies and increasing farmer-led advocacy efforts, thereby contributing to increased government transparency and farmer representation.

ORGUT provides international short term technical assistance in areas related to developing connections and access to European markets, export-promoting initiatives, alignment of products with EU standards and requirements, environmentally sustainable production, pro-poor focus, governance and gender.
