Nicaragua
As a result of the many assignments and business opportunities in Nicaragua, ORGUT has since 2002 a country representative based in Managua. ORGUT’s office in Managua is integrated with that of its long-standing partner, Fiallos Asociados, and ORGUT’s representative is Mr Luis Fiallos. The ORGUT representation has been providing backstopping services to several projects, is familiar with donor procedures and able to recruit local specialists for technical, logistical and administrative back-up on short notice.
Fiallos Asociados S.A. is a Nicaraguan consultancy firm which started in 1998, specializing in tropical forest management and industrial forestry. The company has a long record of consultancy assignments within the natural resources sector and environmental management (including environmental impact assessments). Fiallos Asociados S.A also has long experience from integrated natural resource management including land management planning, strategic formulation of projects, watershed management and socio-economic evaluations. Fiallos Asociados S.A has a wide network of consultants and has vast experience from managing multi-disciplinary teams of consultants, recruitment and backstopping services.
Luis Fiallos
ORGUT Representative
Mr. Luis Fiallos is a Civil Engineer, graduated from the University of Costa Rica (1972). He also holds a Master’s Degree in Development Economics from Boston University (1979). In addition to this, he has a Diploma in Investment Projects Appraisal (1976) from a training program implemented by the Government of Nicaragua with support from the Inter-American Development Bank and he has taken a course in ecological economics, arranged by the World Bank and IICA (1996).
During the 1980´s, Mr. Fiallos held a number of high-level posts in the Nicaraguan government and public administration (Vice Minister, Ministry of Industry; Economic Analysis Director of the National Reconstruction Government Board; Planning Director of the National Industry Corporation and the National Reconstruction Fund; Executive President of the National Forestry Corporation). During the 1990´s and to date, he has worked mainly as a consultant in a number of different projects on matters of sustainable agricultural and forestry development, sometimes at a watershed level, involving: economic and financial feasibility studies; fostering agribusiness, design of investment projects; ERR calculations; cash-flow analysis and; financing and market studies. He has also worked on the development of economic sector policies and identification of key indicators to set up investment priorities.
